  "A Hero's Journey" Week 05 Reflection.  - Carrie Walsman This week we got to listen to one of my now Top 5 Talks which was "A Hero's Journey".  The talk was 22 minutes but it didn't take long for the speaker to grab your attention.  I would like to talk about 2 main points that ended up grabbing my attention. The first quote that stuck out to me was. " It’s all about you because using your gifts to change the world will change you in the process and you will realize you serve a force in the  universe that is  far bigger than you are." In the speech he tells the listeners to go ask 10 people what your best at. The goal here is to help find your talent and in doing that also your purpose. Talents a purpose line up fairly well.  PURPOSE This week we learned about purpose.  Points we went over were... What are you good at? What were you born to do? Lastly, Who's going to pay you to do it? I love photography, videography, editing, social media, coming up with ideas.  I took a photoshop editing job, I had to edit between 300-500 photos a day Monday-Friday and on paper it was a perfect job, it was only a couple hours a day, I worked from home, and the times were very flexible. For a college student who struggled with health problems the job was perfect, But months went by and I started not liking it, I was super fast at my job and my boss loved how the images looked, but it was mind numbing doing the same thing over and over again, and I didn't make that much. When I first started I  made more because it took me longer to edit photos.  Reflection  Carrie Walsman      Some of the best things I learned this week from class was how important it is to set yourself up for success rather than failure and what's important to focus on vs on what you can think about in the future.      Learning and talking about business ethics at first was no new news. Being brought up in the church with good moral and standard it felt almost silly being told that you shouldn't lie or steal with business.  It was shocking learning that some people actually need to be taught that.       It's important to be able to trust your employees.  You need to learn how to work hard, and remember your goals. Ask yourself what business you want to be and who do you want to attract, do you want to be an A-grade business? Create a Life of Meaning  Here's what I learned in this weeks of studying in week 2 - Carrie Walsman "It’s not about how to achieve your dreams, it’s about how to lead your life. If you lead your life the right way the karma will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you. " - Randy Pausch I loved watching Randy Pausch's Last Lecture.  To provide context Randy Pausch is a computer science professor, and  has pancreatic cancer and expects to live just a few more weeks or months.   The part that stuck out to me the most during the video lecture was when he went to apply to Disney and got rejected, but then goes on to continue to say this. " So that was a bit of a setback. But remember, the brick walls are there for a reason, right? The brick walls are not there to keep us out.   Entrepreneurial Journal Blog What I've learned just in the first week of class - Carrie Walsman, January 6th, 2023 I'm currently taking a class at BYU-1 called Intro. to Entrepreneurship.  The first week of class we watched several  videos and articles.  It starts with dreaming big but starting with small steps. The course purpose is to learn practical life lessons and fundamental business tools required to become a successful entrepreneur, and according to the syllabus.  Why traveling is important.  Carrie Walsman 1/2/22 Writing this I had a great reminder of some of the places I've been and some of the connections I had made. The WHY traveling is important I love traveling, and when I first was able to travel outside of the United States, my love only grew deeper for it. Over the years I've been to serval different states, different countries like India, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Peru and Guatemala. It's hard when I always get asked "what country was your favorite?' It's always too hard answer because they are all so different and each have their own unique impact.  Since each country is so different, it leads me to my first point on why I think it's so important to travel. It opens your mind up to new cultures, new ways of living and food. It leads to opening your mind up and can help you with your own personal growth as a person.  Traveling also can help with gratitude, and can help you become a more caring person....
